YESTERDAY – A TRIBUTE TO THE BEATLES

Tom Wopat

Well-known for his TV roles on The Dukes of Hazzard and Cybill, Tom Wopat is also a classically trained vocalist and major presence on Broadway. From his debut in I Love My Wife to his Tony-nominated role opposite Bernadette Peters in Annie Get Your Gun, with stops along the way in Guys and Dolls, Chicago and 42nd Street, Wopat has thrilled audiences throughout the country. His critically acclaimed act, Love Swings, features songs from some of music's biggest stars including Frank Sinatra, The Beatles and Judy Garland. It showcases his smooth, intimate and sexy style, reminiscent of the great crooners of the 40’s and 50’s. Lula Washington Dance Theatre

One of the most admired African-American contemporary dance companies in the west, Lula Washington Dance Theatre is known for powerful, high-energy dancing and unique choreography. Based in the inner city of South Los Angeles, the company’s performances reflect many aspects of African American culture and history, celebrating and uplifting the human spirit. Filled with true beauty, exuberance, sensuality and creativity, the company’s performances include “Ode To The 60s,” a light-hearted look back at the cultural revolution that includes the music of Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles, and “Songs of the Disinherited,” an American Masterpiece winner. www.lulawashington.com

Juan Carmona

Born of Spanish Gypsy background in Lyons, France, this Latin Grammy-nominated flamenco guitarist is one of the most creative performers of the new flamenco generation. A proud descendent of the guitar-playing Habichuelas dynasty from Granada, Spain, he obtained his degree as a concert musician from the celebrated National Conservatory of Music in Paris. At the age of 26, he became the first professor of flamenco guitar holding a state-awarded diploma. His albums Orillas and Sinfonia Flamenca were nominated for Best Flamenco Album at the Latin Grammy Awards. He has performed with such renowned orchestras as the Russian Philharmonic, the National Orchestra of Lyons and the Marseille Opera Symphony Orchestra. Joining Mr. Carmona on stage is a talented group of musicians including Sabrina Romero, a gifted vocalist and sizzling Flamenco dancer. www.juancarmona.com

Pine Leaf Boys

The Alley Cats

Back by popular demand, The Alley Cats return to Clovis with their 50’s and 60’s doo wop show. Combining a perfect blend of musical talent and comic timing, the Cats feature tight harmonies, universal humor and unbelievable a cappella energy. Royce, Juan, Mando and Toby celebrate the oldies with tight, four-part harmonies and a lighthearted, interactive stage show. They have opened for Jay Leno in Las Vegas and shared the stage with Chubby Checker, The Beach Boys and comedian Jerry Seinfeld. This talented quartet has produced five CDs and performed in 40 states and more than 1,500 schools around the country. La Catrina Quartet

Hailed by Yo Yo Ma as “wonderful ambassadors for music,” the award winning La Catrina Quartet is one of the most sought after chamber ensembles on tour today. Their unique blend of Latin-American and standard repertoire has proved enormously entertaining for their diverse audiences, catering to the more traditional concertgoers while still attracting the next generation of listeners. Showcased in a special concert in Carnegie Hall, their infectious personalities infuse their playing, creating truly compelling performances. They have premiered works by composers Thomas Janson, John Ferrito and Zae Munn and their U.S. tour includes concerts at Merkin Hall in New York City and the University of Washington’s World Series in Seattle. Enter the Haggis

Swing Fever

Venture back in time to an old-fashion “tea dance” with the music of Swing Fever, a California-based band created and nurtured in the San Francisco Bay area. Having cut their musical chops with Jazz legends Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett, the players bring fresh excitement to old favorites. Honored as a California Arts Council touring artist, the band spotlights the vocal stylings of Denise Perrier, one of San Francisco’s most popular performers. Called “a voice with a heart,” Denise has produced four CDs, including the Grammy-nominated, “Color Me Blue.” Featuring an authentic big band sound, Swing Fever has performed at prestigious jazz festivals throughout the country including the Monterey Jazz Festival. The Santa Fe Opera

Always a Series favorite, the The Santa Fe Opera performers present joyous music, heart wrenching melodies, show stopping arias and favorite show tunes during their spring tour throughout New Mexico and West Texas. The tour is a project of The Santa Fe Opera’s Education and Community Programs Department. Guests will have an opportunity to meet and visit with the performers at a reception held in the Eula Mae Edwards Museum following the show.  www.santafeopera.com

Enjoy this special Mother’s Day concert spotlighting New Mexico artists as they celebrate Mexican culture and the rich traditions of Jalisco, Mexico. Headlining is Reynaldo Maestas, one of the leading young Mariachi entertainers in the southwest today. Also performing is Santa Fe's premiere all-female recording group, Mariachi Buenaventura, and the award winning folklorico dance troupe from the Dance Academy in Albuquerque, Baila! Baila!  Audiences will delight in romantic serenades, powerful rhythms, and lyrical movements from these supremely talented artists.
