The
Business and Office Technology program offers an Associate of Applied Science
degree in Business and Office Technology (BOFT) with three areas of emphasis in
which students can gain experience in specialty areas of Executive Office
Professional, Legal Office Professional, and Medical Office Professional. An Administrative Assistant Certificate of
Completion is also available for students seeking a short-term program. The
BOFT program is designed to prepare students to perform at both the operational
and managerial levels required in today’s office. Students learn to develop
professional office skills necessary for employment in the business world such
as computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and
PowerPoint), office procedures, human relation skills, computer literacy, and
business communication.
Office Proficiency Assessment Certification Test
The Office Proficiency Assessment Certification Test (OPAC)
is a computerized system of measuring proficiency of skills needed in today’s
technology-based office. The
International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) validates the OPAC.
Students will be required to take portions of the OPAC test.
There are five primary skill areas measured by the OPAC
System: Computer Applications Tests (Windows, Editing/Formatting from a Rough
Draft, Spreadsheet, Database, and PowerPoint); Keyboarding/Data Entry Tests
(Keyboarding, 10-Key, and Data Entry); Clerical Skills Tests (Formatting a
Letter, Transcription, Composing Minutes, Filing, and Proofreading); Financial
Tests (Bank Reconciliation, Bank Deposit, Petty Cash, and Basic Math); and
Professional Tests (Legal and Medical Terminology and Transcription). A testing fee is required and students who
successfully meet the test standards will receive OPAC Certification.
Pre-assessment tests are also available for the Microsoft Office Specialist
certification tests. Additional information is available from instructors in
the Business and Office Technology (BOFT) program.
