Become a CCLC Volunteer! And discover the JOY of teaching someone how to READ.
One in four New Mexicans cannot read this sentence...
Some 5,000 residents in Curry County struggle to read a food label, fill out a job application or read a story to a child. The Curry County Literacy Council is a non-profit, volunteer organization whose mission is to help adults improve their quality of life by helping them to strengthen their basic literacy and communication skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking, math and/or other necessary life skills). We are located at the Center for Student Success at Clovis Community College and are funded, in part, by the New Mexico Coalition for Literacy and the United Way of Eastern New Mexico.
Almost anything can become a learning experience if there is enough caring involved.

Even if you only have an hour of time a week to volunteer, you can help make a difference! No prior experience is necessary – just a desire to help others. We provide all of the training and materials you will need. Here are just some of our wonderful Volunteer Opportunities:
- Tutor and help students become better readers.
- Help students learn English.
- Guide students in important life and work skills.
- Help out with fundraising and publicity.
- Participate in or help plan our Annual Word Game!
- Help with administrative and data entry needs.
A volunteer application can be found at this link – please fill it out and send in or bring in to our office. If you are interested in volunteering as a tutor for the Curry County Literacy Council, please contact us as soon as possible!
