ADULT NON-CREDIT CLASSES
Educated Childbirth
Instructors: Brian and Stephanie Stover
This class provides expert information to prepare expecting couples (moms and coaches) for their birth experience. The class focuses on pregnancy and body changes, mental and physical preparation for labor and delivery, physical and emotional stages of labor and delivery, coaches-as-participants in labor and delivery, making informed decisions concerning drugs during labor, and avoiding emergency Cesarean sections. The class also provides strategies for well-being in postpartum, recovering quickly, and newborn care. Brian and Stephanie are certified through AAHCC. Please wear comfortable clothing to class and bring two pillows. Maximum enrollment is 10 couples.

Fly Tying
Instructor: Vance Dewbre
New Mexico is a great state for fishing! Learn more about fly fishing by learning the basic and advanced techniques in tying bass and trout flies. New and experienced learners are welcome. Some materials will be furnished, but additional tools will need to be purchased under the direction of the instructor. Materials list will be provided at the first class.

High Plains Chorale
If you love to sing here’s your chance to increase your skills and be a part of a community chorale! This class provides rehearsal and performance of music for mixed voices. Students will also rehearse and perform in the annual High Plains Chorale Christmas Concert. This class may also be taken for credit or audit by enrolling in Mus106-Choral Ensemble. Please refer to the Fall 2008 Academic Class Schedule for information on fees. Introduction to Weaving – Pouches
Instructor: Laura Martin
This class presents an introduction into the art of weaving using a loom and yarn. Students will learn how to make and use a card loom to weave a handy pouch – a beautiful hand-made gift by you! These colorful pouches have many uses including a change or money pouch, or to store a cell phone or MP3 player. Some out-of-class work may be necessary to complete the project within the class days and times. Instructor Laura Martin is an experienced craft and rug weaver who also has experience teaching weaving.

Poetry Writing
Instructor: Laura Martin
Do you love writing poetry or want to learn more about writing poetry? This class provides the perfect backdrop for you to do your best writing! Students will write a variety of poems in this class. Laura Martin is an experienced poetry instructor who also provides the stimulation to continue writing on your own. Bring paper and pen/pencil to class.

Batik
Instructor: Elisa Bach
Learn to create beautiful articles and garments using the centuries-old method of batik. Batik is both an art and a craft in which wax is applied to a fabric, and then dyed. The resulting patterns are beautiful, elegant and colorful! No previous art or craft skills are required. Each student will produce 2 batik scarves, and will learn techniques for creating a variety of projects. Just in time for gift-giving! Elisa has years of experience teaching art classes. Materials are included in the course fee.

Forklift Safety Training
Instructor: Bill Adams
Note: You must know how to operate a forklift before taking this course.
This course provides instruction, forklift safety training, testing, and certification for employment or job advancement. Course include general safety, pre-operation, operation, load handling, fuel/battery maintenance, and specialized units. This course satisfies OSHA's requirements for providing refresher or remedial training based on unsafe operation, an accident, incident, near miss, or deficiency found during periodic evaluations. Class size is limited. We can customize this class for your business!

Conversational Spanish – Texico Municipal Schools
Instructor: Patricia Rojas-Natividad
Learn to make conversation in Spanish. This class is for the student with no formal background in Spanish. The focus will be on basic grammar, conjugation of verbs, and vocabulary that will assist students to converse in daily life situations.
