Clovis Community College Sponsors Leadership Odyssey Camp...Clovis, NM (June, 2008) - Leadership Odyssey engages 50 - 100 students from area 10th, 11th, and 12 grades in problem-solving and team-building exercises designed to develop collaborative and individual leadership skills.
During the week of June 9 — 13, participants make daily trips to campus to meet leaders from Clovis Community College's student organizations, administration, faculty, and staff and explore the campus community. Students become familiar with a range of issues and challenges facing today's leaders and then work on group projects to address these issues.
The program also provides early networking opportunities with new friends who are interested in future leadership roles within the community and beyond. At Leadership Odyssey, leaders get to play as well as learn.
CCC's Leadership Odyssey program was established in 2001 in coordination with Student Services Retention and Recruitment staff Monica Sanchez and Carol Allison, as an opportunity to help high school sophomores' transition from local junior high schools to Clovis High School. This year's enrollment in the program is 96 students, which includes students participating in CCC's GEAR UP and Upward Bound programs. A service learning component was added this year for returning Leadership Odyssey students who are providing a Leadership Camp for younger students, July 21 — 25.
It is a core belief of the Office of the President that strong leaders are required for a future in which the nation and the world becomes increasingly connected, and seeks to prepare Clovis Community College's students to meet the need.
