Colorado Foundation Awards Scholarship Funds to CCC...The Daniels Fund of Denver, CO, has announced a two-year grant of $30,000 to Clovis Community College for student scholarships. The award was made under the organization's Daniels Opportunity Scholarship program, which benefits students in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. The grant, for scholarships to be awarded in 2009 and 2010, is the third such award given to CCC by the Daniels Fund.
The scholarships are intended to benefit students who were unable to attend college immediately after high school, or who may need a second chance for a college education. Eligible recipients include GED graduates, former foster care residents; and students who have encountered the juvenile justice system, are separating from military service, or are enrolled in EMT or paramedic training.
The Daniels Fund was established by the late Bill Daniels, who achieved success in the cable television industry. Daniels grew up in Hobbs, New Mexico, and attended the New Mexico Military Institute at Roswell. His niece, Diane Daniels Denish, is New Mexico's lieutenant governor, and serves on the Daniels Fund Board of Directors.
According to Financial Aid Director April Chavez, the Daniels scholarships already have been a boon to CCC recipients. "We have had many students benefit from the Daniels Opportunity Scholarship program," Chavez said. "This scholarship helps students pay tuition, fees and book costs that they may otherwise not be able to."
Plans call for awarding of 12 scholarships of $500 each for the spring and fall terms, and 10 awards of $300 each during the summer term. More information and scholarship applications are available through the CCC Office of Financial Aid, 769-4060.
