Celebrate the holiday with Fiesta Navidad de Mariachi...The exciting sounds of blazing trumpets, strumming violins and guitarron's will fill the air as Fiesta Navidad de Mariachi takes the stage on Sunday, December 12, 3 p.m. at the Clovis Civic Center. Back by popular demand, Reynaldo Maestas, Mariachi Buenaventura and the dancers of Baila! Baila! will thrill the entire family with a colorful and impressive show to begin the holiday season. All three performing acts are scheduled to play to an estimated 600,000 + audience at the 2012 London Olympics! Fiesta Navidad de Mariachi is the December Cultural Arts Series performance and is sponsored in part by The Citizen's Bank of Clovis and Dr. and Mrs. Gene Lovato.
Headlining is Reynaldo Maestas, one of the leading Mariachi entertainers in the southwest today. He has been singing since the age of three and attributes his dream of becoming a performer to his mother's collection of Julio Iglesia's albums! As a child, growing up in Rociada, New Mexico, he would listen for hours to Iglesia's songs and dream of performing on stage. During his high school years, Reynaldo realized his own musical talent and was soon under the tutelage of his neighbor, New Mexico's own living legend, Antonia Apodaca, best known for her performance of "La Reina de La Polka." As a result of her guidance, he has developed his own technique and style over the years and is always a crowd pleaser.
Mariachi Buenaventura, Santa Fe's premiere all-female recording group, has been performing together over the last five years to local and national audiences. The group is best known for singing their own original arrangements of pop songs and cumbias with a mariachi twist. Blending their various musical backgrounds, which include rock, symphony and jazz, they play a wide array of traditional Mexican and contemporary New Mexican folk and popular music. Such dignitaries as Governor Bill Richardson and President Barack Obama have enjoyed their music.
The Dance Academy of Albuquerque folklorico dance troupe, Baila! Baila!, will delight the audience with romantic but powerful rhythms, colorful costumes, and exciting movements.
Tickets are on sale at the Clovis Community College's cashier window, the Clovis, Curry County Chamber of Commerce and the ITT Office on Cannon Air Force Base. The popular family pass is available for this performance and costs 40.00 for five tickets. For more information please call 575-769-4035.
