Nation Beat THE CARNIVAL TOTAL Tour...
Clovis, NM -- Clovis Community College and The Citizens Bank of Clovis are excited to present NATION BEAT, an American/Brazilian collective whose music is inspired by Brazilian beats fused with New Orleans rhythms, funk, and country-blues. Nation Beat lands in New Mexico for the Southwest leg of their not-to-be-missed Carnaval Total Tour on Saturday, February 9, 7 PM at Clovis Civic Center. From Brazilian maracatu to Louisiana swamp rock, it's like being in Recife, Brazil and NOLA at the same time!
Accompanying the surging mixture of diverse genres, cultures, and rhythms, NATION BEAT introduces an unprecedented mixture of northeastern Brazil's maracatu and forro and the sounds of the deep American South. NATION BEAT artistic director/founder Scott Kettner, a graduate of The New School University (NYC) and a 2006 Latin Jazz Ambassador, is at once following the path of such Brazilian luminaries as Lenine and Chico Science, and forging new trails with a distinct, contemporary interpretation of the traditional 19th century Pernembuco-born rhythm. The group is fronted by the soaring powerhouse vocalist and rising Brazilian star Fabiana Masili and is rounded out by a remarkably talented, innovative, and fearless group of musicians. They're the first American group to record in Brazil with the legendary Mestre Walter and Maracatu Nação Estrela Brilhante, and the first Brazilian band to perform with Willie Nelson.
At the heart of NATION BEAT's sound lies their passion for performing and their explosive live show--which is frequently known to burst into crowd-wide Carnival-style drumming and singing--is attracting music fans from a wide demographic: bluegrass and country music fans, Brazilian music lovers, concert-goers and pretty much anyone who loves to dance and loves great music.
NATION BEAT will perform at the Clovis Civic Center as part of the Cultural Arts Series on Saturday, February 9. The show starts at 7 PM. Tickets are $22.00 general admission and $17.00 for seniors/military/students and may be purchased at the CCC Cashiers' Window, Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce or the evening of the performance, pending availability. "In Nation Beat's music, European, African, and Latin sensibilities come together in the spirit of a Friday night party after a week of hard work." -- NPR
"Addictive." -- Time Out Chicago
