Community College Awareness Month celebrated at CCC...Community College Awareness Month celebrated at CCC
A campus cookout, held last week in the Commons Area of Clovis Community College, kicked off the nationally recognized annual celebration of Community College Awareness Month.
According to the American Association of Community Colleges (www.aacc.nche.edu), community colleges provide easy access to postsecondary education and serve almost half of the undergraduate students in the United States.
Evolving in the early part of the 20th century, community colleges were established when national, regional, and local leaders recognized that a more skilled workforce was needed to address and keep the economic strength of the United States.
Pledging to the community college mission, CCC works closely with many local and regional businesses to help train their workforce. Efforts to involve local businesses and industry include hosting program advisory board planning sessions each semester in which businesses are asked to participate in discussions regarding curriculum and other specifics of the programs offered.
President Dr. Becky Rowley said, "Clovis has been very supportive of CCC and, in turn, CCC wants to provide excellent education and opportunities to the community and the surrounding areas. We are very proud to be part of this community."
