Dedication Luncheon for the Mabel Lee Hawkins Center for Student Success at Clovis Community College...Clovis - April 7, 2006 the Center for Student Success was re-dedicated as the Mabel Lee Hawkins Center for Student Success. Mrs. Mabel Lee Hawkins, a long time resident of Curry County, who in 2000 made a significant financial contribution totaling $270,000 to the CCC Foundation, believed that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue a college education, regardless of their financial situation. Thanks to her amazing generosity, many CCC students will have the opportunity to realize their educational dreams.
Dr. Becky Rowley, Interim President, CCC, presided over the dedication and Dr. Beverlee McClure, Cabinet Secretary, New Mexico Department of Higher Education, was the special guest speaker. Also presenting were Mrs. Mona Lee Norman-Armstrong, Director, Adult Basic Education and Mr. Raymond Mondragon, President, CCC Foundation. Mr. Russell Muffley, Chair of the CCC Board of Trustees dedicated the Center.
Vanessa Quintero, Cosmetology student and Christopher Burke, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning student were the endowed scholarship recipients, Mrs. Stephanie Spencer, Executive Director, CCC Foundation, presented the two students with their scholarships.
The Mabel Lee Hawkins Center for Student Success at Clovis Community College offers a wide range of services to academic and non-academic students. The Center hosts a number of programs dedicated to assisting students in achieving their educational goals. These programs consist of the Adult Basic Education Program, the Tutoring Program, the Writing Center, the Sign Language lab, the Science tutoring lab, English as a Second Language Program, the Citizenship Program, and the Curry County Literacy Council. All of these programs are supported by professional staff and volunteers dedicated to serving the needs of each and every student that come through the doors of the Center. All services provided by the Center are free of charge.
