CCC's Kids College for the Summer of 2014 has something for every kid, ranging from health and fitness classes to hands-on science and art. Classes fill up quickly and space is limited in each session. Registration information is available here (PDF).

FREE Children's Interactive Science Museum
Children and parents of all ages will enjoy CCC's new Children's Interactive Science Museum! There are so many discoveries to make while playing with our "toys". Come and check out our gear table, digital microscopes, fossils, or bones. We have optical illusion gadgets, circuit and electricity gizmos, audio devices, and so much more! Your child will have tons of fun while having a hands-on science experience. Registration for this activity is not required. Open Mondays through Fridays, 12 pm to 4 pm, June 2 through July 25.
Location: Portable Building on the west side of the campus.

Jeet Kune Do
Instructor: Michael Watson
Jeet Kune Do is the martial art created by Bruce Lee. It is a principle-driven self-defense with simple and direct, or straightforward, movements and non-classical style. Jeet Kune Do practitioners believe in minimal movements with maximum effects and extreme speed. During the course the student will be educated on basic principles of self-defense. Classes will be conducted in a relaxed and informative manner. Michael Watson is an experienced instructor and teaches both children and adults the art of Jeet Kune Do. 12 Sessions: Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, June 2-27, Room 183

Learn a new sport this summer! Tennis is a great way for children to develop fitness skills, improve hand-eye coordination, and mental acuity. Begin a love for the game of tennis by learning the fundamentals, including learning proper grips, footwork, the basic volley and forehand/backhand groundstrokes. Brad has 20+ years of coaching and instructing the game of tennis and will help your child develop skills and confidence. Students must furnish their own racquet but tennis balls will be provided. Students need to bring water.

STEP 1: Intro to Tennis & Basics Skills: Ages 5 and Up

This camp is taught through fast-paced drills and skill-building exercises. The player needs to have a basic/good understanding of the game and its skills. Previous participation in CCC's tennis camp or playing in a league or club should suffice. Students must furnish their own racquet but tennis balls will be provided. Students need to bring water. Maximum enrollment of 14 per class

The advance ability level is focused on developing sound skills in the Serve and Strategies. This camp is taught through fast-paced drills, skill-building exercises, and game-speed scrimmages in a more competitive environment. The player needs to have a basic/good understanding of the game and its skills. Players must complete Step 2 to be enrolled! Students must furnish their own racquet but tennis balls will be provided. Students should also bring water.

Creative Dance!
Instructor: Viola Cano
Dancing is fun, creative, and great exercise! This class combines these elements in a great summer learning experience and finishes with a performance for family and friends in Town Hall. Your child will learn the basics of ballet, jazz and hip-hop dance methods. Viola Cano is an experienced dance instructor who has taught at public schools and dance studios. Clothing requirements are black leotard and pink tights for girls, black or dark shorts for boys. Class size is limited.

Tumbling!
Instructor: Viola Cano
Kids love to move! Let them learn to move with a purpose! Tumbling is a great way for kids to get physical training in flexibility, balance and coordination. Tumbling is also a precursor to gymnastics. Kids will learn basic floor tumbling, as well as forward rolls, cartwheels, bridges and more! Viola Cano is an experienced instructor who has taught at public schools and dance studios. Children should wear comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement.

Ceramics & Pottery-Ages 6-8, 9-12, & 13-15
Instructor: Madelyn Amaro
Discover the art of ceramics and pottery! Your child will enjoy spending time learning the basic skills of hand-built pottery, modeling and carving techniques, and working with glazes. Students need to bring a butter knife, fork, spoon, old towel, plastic bowl with lid, and several old newspapers. All other supplies are included in the fee. Enrollment is limited.

Wheel-thrown Pottery-Ages 10-15
Instructor: Madelyn Amaro
This pottery class will teach students the basics of wheel thrown pottery. Safety instructions will be provided to all students and students should dress appropriately; bring a smock or old shirt to wear, tie back loose hair, and no sleeves that extend past the wrist. Students need to bring a towel, plastic bucket and pottery tool kit. Class size is limited to 12. 8 Sessions: Tuesdays, June 3 - July 22, 10:30-12 noon, Room 517. Fee: $45

Volleyball Camp

Come join the fun this summer at CCC youth volleyball camp. Learn the basic fundamentals and sharpen your skills along with learning the rules of the game. Valerie has many years of experience and is a certified volleyball coach. Students need to dress for physical activity and wear athletic shoes, knee-pads if you have them. Grades listed are for students entering that grade in the fall. Location TBA.

Don't Bug Me

Insects and spiders play a very important role in our backyards. From pollinating flowers that produce the foods we eat to providing us with a sense of wonder such as Monarch butterflies and shimmering webs. In this class we will investigate the world of bugs and spiders through outdoor activities. You will also have an up close encounter with two of the most popular critters found in New Mexico. Join Tish on this amazing journey about bugs and spiders.

Green Leaf

Plants are amazing! They have developed special leaf shapes, sizes, and colors that help them to survive and thrive in New Mexico. How do plants produce food? Why do leaves change color in the fall? We will also have a hands-on activity where children will press leaves onto clay, paint them, and take their projects home.

Volcanoes!

Children love volcanoes! The fiery inferno; hot, molten rock oozing down the hillside and explosions galore! And so much more! We will become volcanologists as we explore how and why volcanoes erupt. We will also find out where in New Mexico we can find these fiery mountains. Join Tish on this incredible journey to the center of the earth. There may be a few surprises along the way.

Wildlife Safari

We don't always see skunks, coyote, and bears but we may have seen or smelled their clues. Believe it or not, wildlife can be found in and around Clovis. From owls to coyote, bobcats and badgers and bats! Yikes! Join Tish as you get to see and feel animal skins and replica skulls on this safari. We will also go outside to look for animals.
