Is there a future in a Fine Arts career?
Professionals working in the fine arts have a wide variety of options to choose from. Most artists fit into one of four categories: art directors, craft artists, fine artists, and multi-media artists. For the few salaried jobs in the fine arts, there are many, many more qualified professionals seeking employment. Those who find a market for their work, though, are usually very happy with the freedom they have in their career.
Why pursue a Fine Art degree?
Artists create art to communicate ideas, thoughts, or feelings. They use a variety of methods — painting, drawing, sculpting, photography, or illustration — and an assortment of materials, including oils, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, pencils, pen and ink, plaster, clay, glass and computers. Artists' works may be realistic, stylized, or abstract and may depict objects, people, nature, or events. A degree in an area of fine arts prepares you to enter a variety of fields, depending upon the concentration you select. Your future could include painting, sculpting, printmaking, glass blowing, clay, illustration or education. A Fine Art degree can start you on the path to creating your own art, managing a gallery, design concepts, illustration for magazine and cartoons, and art education. Multi-media artists are the newest form of artists and they create special effects and animation using computer technology.
