Phi Theta Kappa members are four times more likely to complete college than non-members.

CCC Celebrates PTK Week

February 9, 2016

You may know that Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in higher education today; but did you know that Phi Theta Kappa members are four times more likely to complete college than non-members?

 The benefits and opportunities offered to members of Phi Theta Kappa are unmatched:

  • apply for nearly $90 million in scholarships, including more than $37 million in transfer scholarships;
  • develop leadership skills;
  • build soft skills desired by today’s employers;
  • engage in research projects that put skills learned in the classroom to work in real-word scenarios;
  • network with like-minded students from around the world who value student success.

As members of the Alpha Tau Nu Chapter, we are writing to ask you to support us as we promote the benefits of membership in Phi Theta Kappa to as many students on our campus and in our community as possible. Here are some ways you can help:

  • Recognize eligible members in your classroom and encourage them to accept their membership invitation.
  • Allow our chapter officers to visit your classroom and personally deliver invitations to prospective members.
  • If one of your students is a member, allow them to briefly share their reasons for becoming a Phi Theta Kappa member with your class.
  • Keep up with important Society dates such as scholarship application periods and upcoming webinars and encourage your students to participate.
  • Support our chapter as we hold on-campus service projects and fundraisers when possible.
  • Most of all, we ask that you educate yourself so you can in turn educate others. Our chapter requires a 3.5 GPA for membership and 12 credit hours completed towards an associate degree. Invitation are sent out every spring and fall in the second month by e-mail and then by mail. If you know of students making the grade, talk to them about becoming Phi Theta Kappa members.

We have meetings every two weeks. Our advisors are Misty Padilla at 575.769.4980 & Dr. Aaron Anderson at 575.769.4960. Please, reach out to us any time you have a question. Get to know us — we have benefits and opportunities for every student at our college. Visit ptk.org to learn more about how Phi Theta Kappa is changing the stories of its members.
