CCC Receives Mental and Behavioral Health Grant

Clovis Community College recently received a $50,000 Mental and Behavioral Health grant from the New Mexico Higher Education Department. In total, the NM Higher Education Department awarded grants to 20 programs at 14 college and university campuses across the state as part of the grant initiative.

This grant will help CCC provide mental health presentations, additional services, and connection to resources for students. Students will have an opportunity to complete a wellness survey that will provide insight into which mental and behavioral health areas are of highest importance or need for the CCC student body.

“This is a great opportunity for us as a campus to ask students what mental health services they are needing and wanting and then provide them with direct services,” said Director of Counseling, Advising, & Student Life, Marcus Smith. “Through this grant we will be able to provide high quality mental health presentations to increase coping techniques and stress/anxiety reducing strategies to improve the mental wellbeing of all our students.”

CCC’s mental health team plans to offer four events over the course of the academic year on wellness topics identified by those student surveys. Additional on-and-off campus resources and information relating to the topic will be given to students after each event. Students who attend the events will have the chance to win giveaways geared towards improving mental health such as stress balls, water bottles, and meditation resources.
