CCC Early College High School Student Named 2024 National Merit® Scholarship Semifinalist

Clovis Community College Early College High School (ECHS) senior, Isaiah Garcia was recently named a Semifinalist in the 69th National Merit® Scholarship Program put on by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Garcia will graduate from Clovis High School and the Early College High School program in May 2024. He will earn an associate degree in liberal arts from CCC in addition to his high school diploma. Garcia plans to continue his education by studying engineering and hopes to attend Rice University.

More than 16,000 students were named as Semifinalists and have the chance to continue in the competition for 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth almost $28 million. Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist stage and about 95 percent of Semifinalists are expected to become Finalists, with approximately half of Finalists earning a National Merit Scholarship next spring.

The journey to become a Semifinalist started when over 1.3 million juniors throughout 21,000 high schools took the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants from each state.

Finalists will be announced in February 2024 and National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in four different national news releases starting in April and concluding in July.
