My name is Diane Morton and as a first-generation college student, I know firsthand the power of making strong campus connections, persistence and adaptability. I am a strong believer in engaging students in meaningful conversations, which can connect them with resources, help them identify their strengths, and move them toward their goals.

My journey at Clovis Community College began in the spring of 2012. I have lived and worked within Curry County and the surrounding communities for more than 20 years and higher Education has been my focus for the past 6 years. I worked in the Center for Student Success with Adult Education assisting community members obtain their high school diplomas and English learners. In 2016, I began working with Title V to bring Academic Coaching to our campus and track academic success and retention.

Currently I am the Tutoring Manager and Retention Success Coordinator. My passion is to help students achieve success inside and outside the classroom. When I am away from the office I enjoy spending time with family and friends, writing, and sculpting.

Hi! My name is April Chavez. I am an Academic Coach here at CCC.

My college journey was probably similar to many of yours. I was a first generation college student as well a non-traditional student. I attended my local community college (Ellsworth Community College) where I graduated with my AA in Liberal Arts. I then transferred to the University of Northern Iowa (a 60 mile commute) where I graduated with my BA in Finance.

During my undergraduate studies, I had many part-time jobs ranging from waiting tables, working in fast-food restaurants and bartending. I began working at CCC in 1997 and found my career path in Higher Education. I returned to school and earned my MA in Higher Education Administration in 2006. I am currently the Director of Financial Aid at CCC.

I love spending time with my family and in my spare time I enjoy reading and genealogy.

If you feel you could benefit from Coaching, please don’t hesitate to make an appointment. It would be a privilege to work with you in meeting your goals.

Hey there! My name is Al Potthoff, and I am a first generation high school graduate.  Since, I have attended community colleges, four-year institutions as well as graduate programs from California to Maine.  I have also taught psychology and neuroscience courses at all levels, but, my favorite teaching role was at a preschool where the students seemed to believe that encountering an obstacle was not a limit but a frontier. Outside of the academic world I have enjoyed episodes in careers such as tax preparation, medical data collection and analysis, field work in environmental science, and was even a librarian for a while. You might guess that I am curious about almost anything. I look forward to meeting you, discovering what you are a great resource for, and what frontiers you will be conquering.

My name is Mallory Nielson, and I am originally from the Denver area. After earning my BS at Colorado State University in 2019, I moved to Clovis to join my boyfriend who is stationed at Cannon AFB. I have worked in the Tutoring Center at CCC for a year now and enjoy helping in primarily math and science subjects (check out the tutoring page to see specifics). I thoroughly enjoy reading students’ writing and helping work out grammatical, formatting, and research issues both in technical and creative writing as well. I recently went through academic coaching training and am ready and eager to work with students who may be struggling with school academically, emotionally, technically, or all of the above, free of judgment. Being in my 20s helps me relate to and work closely with my students on a peer level, helping them achieve their academic goals. I also know the struggles of dealing with deployed and/or TDY spouses and can work with you to find resources to benefit you and your family.

Hello, my name is Sarah, and I am from Long Beach, CA. Mathamatics and writing are my favorite subjects to learn and teach, both as a student and tutor. Currently I am working on my BS in Electrical Engineering at ENMU.

I had a select few teachers from different colleges over the years that made an impact on me as a student, and I hope to one day be that person for someone else. I love working Algebra problems, writing research reports, and can help with MLA, APA, and any general questions about computers and technology. I hope to make students excited about learning and support them through their academic journey.
